Katherine R. Schou, Apprentice 

Katherine, (Katie) is Kevin and Maureen’s daughter. Katie attended Oregon State University, where she was an active member of Alpha Chi Omega, and earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Political Science in June 2013. She began her apprenticeship under her parents in July of 2013. Following in her parents and Grandfather's footsteps, Katie is an active member of the American Society of Ocularists, and was the Co-Chair of the Apprentice Committee for two years. In the Spring of 2016, Katie was Awarded the Joe LeGrand Award from the American Society of Ocularists in recognition of her academic achievement, public speaking skills, and contributions to the Society. As part of the Award, Katie then gave a lecture at the Medical Advisory Seminar of the American Society of Ocularists and the American Academy of Ophthalmology on the benefits of Animal Assisted Therapy.

​Katie is also a Member in Training of the International Academy of Ocularisty. ​
An Ocularist Apprentice is a member of the American Society of Ocularists who is actively training in the fitting and fabrication of ophthalmic prosthetics under the sponsorship of a Board Approved Diplomate Ocularist and is actively enrolled in the Education Program of the American Society of Ocularists. Katie will be enrolled in the Education Program of the American Society of Ocularists for the next five years, at which point she will be eligible to take the National Board Exam (in 2018), administered by the National Examining Board of Ocularists, and upon passing, will become a Board Certified Ocularist. 

She is the third generation of Ocularists to work at Maloney’s Custom Ocular Prosthetics, 
as the founder, Ben Maloney, was her grandfather.

Outside of work, Katie enjoys baking cakes, spending time with her fiancé Nathan and their two dogs,
(Sophie and Ace) and traveling.
