How
Long Will a Prosthetic Eye Last?
There is no definite answer to this question. The life of the
ocular prosthesis depends on your age, the type of implant used
at the time of surgery, reason for the eye loss and age of the
plastic itself. Usually the slow atrophy (loss) of fat deep in
the orbit will require replacement of the prosthesis. Thus we
recommend that you be checked semi-annually by your Ocularist
to determine that there are no scratches, surface deposits, or
anatomical changes.
